Balam Bartolomé studied Visual Arts at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas, from the UNAM, in Mexico City. His practice ranges from sculpture, painting, installation, video and drawing.

Scrutinizing the law of conservation of energy that states that energy cannot be created nor destroyed, but only transformed, Bartolomé´s work aims at understanding the relation between energy and its consequence –the process amid action and reaction- and how can ideas transform an object’s shape or meaning to create a whole different thing or situation.

Received the "Jóvenes Creadores" (Young Creators) grant in Mexico during 2003-2004 and is currently a resident at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in NYC. Both sponsored by the Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (CONACULTA) from Mexico.
