The paintings of the colombian artist Carlos De los Ríos show surrealistic scenarios where art history meets modern culture. This combination of different aspects leads him to his very special figurative world. The intensive and shiny colours do in a way hide the unkind and critical scenes that take place. At first glance, his works seem to be amusing and playful. On closer examination, however, a seriousness and a note of contemporary criticism shine through.
He points out social injustices in his unique visual language: homelessness, poverty and violence. In doing so, he experiments with fear and, simultaneously, our viewing habits.
Carlos De los Ríos works in serials and names them with topics as „Pastoral“ or „gelobte Zone“ (promised zone). Besides the paintings the artist creates very strong drawings, which stand for themselves as well as samples for the paintings.

Carlos De los Ríos (born 1974) studied at the academy of fine arts Munich with Prof. Markus Oehlen and finished with special degree. His works are part of several collections and were been seen in museums and galleries.
