The gallery Stephanie Bender was founded January 2008 in Munich as a gallery for contemporary art with an emphasis on young emerging artists from Germany and abroad, who work in various media (painting, photography, film/video, sculpture/object, installation). The gallery generally feels challenged to promote and support young artists.
Before opening the gallery, Stephanie Bender led the project „wandergalerie“ for two years. The wandergalerie, a kind of nomadic gallery, showed temporary exhibitions with young artists in diverse range of places, outside of white cubes.
This gained a lot of attention, because it was fresh and very experimental.
Beginning of 2008 Stephanie Bender found the right space and opened a permanent gallery in Munich. The gallery is located in Munich´s Pinakotheken area, but in a sidestreet that is kind of rough and the perfect place to show young art.
The galleries focus is to spot and bring forward international, young, interesting artists besides any art market trends. The gallery shows work that is innovative and not afraid to take risk.
Since its inception in 2008, Stephanie Bender has built up an extensive list of gallery exhibitions with both solo and group shows, of national and international artists as well as curatorial projects. Considering the collaboration as a long-term relationship, the gallery endeavours to develop the presence of all artists represented, as well as promotion to collectors, national and international institutions, museums and art fairs.
